FOR THOSE WHO FAN THE FLAMES

Cali Girls is a kit, named for a film, built on a story — of a crew of fiery, hard-headed women racing bikes, chasing pro cycling glory against all odds.

This kit is a close variation of the racing team kit worn in the film, designed for those same characters — the dreamers, the ones who wouldn't quit. Designed aboard a moving train in Italy by Jen Whalen and Cesar Villalba, the print draws on the unapologetically loud kits of the 1990s Tour de France and the fiery tenacity of the women who inspired it. Its fictional team sponsors pay tribute to some of Jen's favorite small businesses in Los Angeles, and the movie's rallying cry travels with it on every ride: CLAM UP AND RIDE.

CHAMPIONING THE INDIE SPIRIT Twelve years in the making, Cali Girls didn't happen by accident. It was built from the ground up on the stories of resilient athletes, the grit of a passionate cast, and the tireless, generous effort of a talented crew who simply believed in the project.

When you wear this kit, you’re doing more than backing women's sports—you’re championing independent filmmaking and women-led productions. You're wearing a decade-plus of ambition, late nights, and grassroots hustle. Wear the flame, support the indie dream, and ride for the ones who refused to quit.

"The most comfortable, coolest, best-fitting kit I've ever worn — and I've worn a lot of kits."

— Jen Whalen

FROM THE STARTING LINE TO THE STORY LINE

Jen Whalen raced bikes at an elite level while working full-time as a producer at Warner Bros. — because a pro female racer's salary didn't cover much else. Weekdays were studio meetings. Weekends were spent trying to stay fit enough to line up against Olympians. Exhausting, unsustainable, and objectively thrilling.

Cali Girls is Jen's love hate letter to pro cycling. Stepping away from racing gave her the distance to see that chapter for what it really was: a perfect mix of ambition, delusion, and an absolute comedy of errors.

"Cali Girls is my love hate letter to pro cycling... and it's funny."

— Jen Whalen

WORN BY THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED IT

Women's cycling has made real progress — there's finally a women's Tour de France, and a female cyclist has broken the million-dollar salary mark. But those wins were built on years of athletes who showed up out of pure passion, in a sport that was largely untelevised, underfunded, and overlooked.

"One day, we'll all look back on this and laugh." That time has officially come. Cali Girls is inspired by real experiences and stars real cyclists — three years in the making, made possible by support from Specialized and Panavision. It comes from the heart, on a microscopic budget, with a majority women-led cast and crew.

This kit follows the same spirit: made for people who actually ride, not just watch.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER / DIRECTOR

Jen Whalen is an award-winning creative director, filmmaker, and recovering pro cyclist whose career lives at the intersection of Hollywood storytelling and endurance sports.

In 2014, she created Cali Girls as a short film series — a brutally funny take on the realities of being a female bike racer. What started as shorts went on to be selected by the YouTube Supercharge Pitch Program and the Bicycle Film Festival, eventually evolving into this feature-length narrative film.

She's currently Creative Director at Aventon and has worked with Apple, SRAM, Specialized, Netflix, and Hulu.

Mantra: Do it for the laugh.
