Fall/Winter Riding Guide Part III
Fall/Winter Riding Guide Part III

Daily Defense Against the Cold of Deep Winter

Keep the pedals turning in the coldest winter temperatures with our wide range of jackets, AV Windfront Bib Tights, and accessories to keep you riding through anything.

AV Extreme and Extreme Lyte Jackets

Perfect for the coldest conditions, the AV collection of jackets keeps up with your most extreme winter riding while providing mimimal overall garment weight. Acqua Zero Eco™ nanotechnology keeps you protected from the rain with its water resistant properties while the breathable DVstretch™ membrane and additional thermal panels insulate against cold winds and allow perspiration to escape. This helps regulate your core body temperature so you can ride with high intensity without overheating or cruise in the cold and keep warm.

Polartec® Alpha® Direct

The key to the AV Extreme and Extreme Lyte Jacket's performance in the coldest temperatures is the Polartec Alpha® Direct insulated interior, which continuously releases excess body heat before it causes saturation and discomfort. It does this through soft, lofted fibers connected to a solid mesh core. The reason it can do this so effectively is that Polartec® Alpha® Direct is inherently hydrophobic and resists all moisture.

The blue interior of the AV Extreme uses a 130 gram Alpha® Direct insulation for maximum warmth and performance in the coldest deep winter temperatures, from the high 40s down to the low 20°F, while the AV Extreme Lyte’s grey insulation comes in at 90 grams and is optimized for a slightly wider range — mid 50s to as cold as 32°F — and utilizes a thermal panel at the back for increased breathability and use in warmer temperatures compared to the AV Extreme.

Fit

A slightly relaxed-fit, yet still body conforming, the AV Extreme and Extreme Lyte Jackets have enough warmth built in to be worn with a very lightweight thermal jersey or winter base layer to keep the bulk down. The high, ergonomic fleece-lined collar, soft elastic cuffs at the wrists offer warmth and protection with a snug and comfortable fit. A longer drop tail below the rear pockets aids in protection from inclement weather and cold temperatures with the highly reflective pixel fabric for use in low light conditions.

Temperature Range*

Recommended for cold climates and temperatures from high 40°F to low 20°F for the AV Extreme Jacket and the mid 50s to mid 30 degrees for the AV Extreme Lyte.

*Temperature ranges are a general reference as every cyclist experiences temperatures differently and depending on your riding style, from high output efforts to low-intensity training, the range could be extended or decreased.

AV Versa Winter Jacket

For your coldest weather rides, you need protection, comfort, and versatility. The three-layer DVstretch™ eVent fabric used to create the AV Versa Winter Jacket is wind and water resistant with high elasticity WindTex membrane strategically placed on the sides of the body, helping to regulate body temperature. The inside is fleece lined for warmth and comfort, while the outside has a DWR water repellent treatment to keep you protected. Reflectivite accents on the left arm, rear pocket, and rear drop tail keep you visible in lower light conditions.

Fit

A slightly more generous fit compared to previous generation jackets, the AV Versa allows for layering with thermal long sleeve jerseys or winter base layers. The ergonomic collar helps keep you warm and also aids in a comfortable fit while in the riding position.

Temperature Range*

Recommended for colder climates and temperatures from high 40°F to low 20°F.

AV Windfront Bib Tight

Ultimate protection from wet roads, rain, and cold, windy conditions. The three-layer fabric provides protection from the cold and utilizes Acqua Zero Eco™ hydrophobic treatment that bonds to the fibers on a nano level to repel water. The third, outermost layer of the wind resistant membrane is strategically placed to provide warmth, starting with the middle of the body where the legs meet the torso and moving down over the thigh, knee, and shins. New gusseted stitches at the knee offer improved mobility and articulation of the legs.

Fit

The windfront panels use ergonomic construction to help with stretch. These tights may fit slightly smaller than comparable winter tights because of the heavier weight windfront fabric.

Temperature Range*

Recommended for colder climates and temperatures from high 40°F to low 20°F.

Chamois

The Cirro and Cirro W chamois feature aloe vera infusion at the nano level and a four-layer construction including a hydrophobic foam layer that repels moisture.

FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket

Warmth, protection, and breathability are all important aspects of any winter cycling jacket. The FR-C Pro Lyte Winter Jacket is a lightweight jacket that uses fabrics in strategic areas to provide protection from the elements and temperature regulation. The windproof eVent DVstretch™ high performance membrane is used on the front of the jacket and sleeves for protection from the elements and adds the perfect balance of stretch, water resistance, and breathability. Thermal Blizzard fabric with Acqua Zero Eco™ water repellent technology is used under the arms and at the back to provide increased breathability during hard efforts. A highly reflective Pixel™ panel at the rear tail and reflective Giordana logo on the left arm enhances visibility in low light and inclement weather conditions.

Fit

A slightly more generous fit allows for layering with a lightweight thermal long sleeve jersey or even just a winter base layer. Straight-cut cuffs provide a snug and comfortable fit at the wrist to seal out the cold.

Temperature Range*

Recommended for mild to cold climates and temperatures from mid 50°F to mid 30°F.

AV 300 Gloves

Extreme comfort in extreme conditions and ideal for deep winter, the AV 300 glove is windproof and water resistant. It has foam gel padding in the palm for added comfort and its superior insulation properties will keep your hands toasty on even the coldest days. The outer edge of the thumb is ultra-suede providing a soft surface to wipe the face or brow and a TechTouch™ pad on the index finger allows easy operation of touch screen devices. The AV 300 Glove also has an extended gauntlet with a Velcro closure to further seal out the elements. Silicone finger and palm applications improve grip.

Ceramic Base Layers

Ceramic Short Sleeve and Long Sleeve Base Layers have beneficial effects on circulation and well-being with their unique ceramic fibers and are true all-season garments because of the Resistex® Bioceramic technology. Resistex Bioceramic both reflects the heat to keep you cool in warm weather while trapping it in when the temperatures drop to keep you warm. This advanced material maintains thermal homeostasis, keeping your body in its comfort zone whether it’s hot or cold or somewhere pleasantly in between.

Fit

Streamlined, four-panel construction reduces bulk with a slim fit. The Ceramic Base Layer is the perfect addition to pair under nearly any day's kit. A versatile cycling base layer for use in most conditions.

Temperature Range

Recommended for warm to colder climates and temperatures of 70°F to low 20°F depending on layering and if wearing the short or long sleeve base layer.
